The reviews for this were basically this:
- It's noisy
- The trimmer is in a weird position
- It feels slightly cheaper than the Braun
- The shave is great
- The cost is fantastic for what you get
I've had it for a few weeks and have to say that all of the above is about right. I debated between this and the Braun, but I bought this because of all the negative reviews I read, none seemed to mention that it was a bad shave. So I figured even if I didn't like the trimmer or the noise, I'm still getting a good shave, and that's the most important thing. I actually don't mind the trimmer, and I don't think it's as cheap as some people say. It certainly is noisy, but a nice shave.

A Whopper of a Razor, 2010-07-23
When I first took the razor from its package, I was overwhelmed by its size and pondered the natural evolution of future ten or 15 blade razors that could shave one side of the face with one stroke. After my initial shock I gave this razor a test, one that it passed with flying colors.
From shave one to shave 16, the shaves were smooth and close with only a few bloody nicks in all. Usually my first shave with a new, sharp razor results in too many cuts. With the Shick Hydro I had not a single cut and a great shave to boot.
At first I didn't even realize one can flip back the top of the razor for trimming. It's a great and necessary feature for this giant of a razor.
I'll be sticking with the Shick Hydro 5, and have already bought some replacement cartridges. I like the razor with disposable blades better than the disposable razors. I like the heavier feel of the regular razor, and for some reason seem to get better shaves and fewer nicks with this type of razor.
This one definitely gets my recommendation.

This is a must MUST have for me. I get painful ingrown hairs and every single time I stop using this product they come back with a vengeance. However, when I am using it, my skin is perfectly smooth. I've used it for several years. It's an expensive sacrafice to not have to deal with an embarassing problem. It has to be used daily, definitely right after shaving or waxing.
