Braun Series 7- 790cc (9595) Pulsonic Shaver

The Braun 790cc Pulsonic Shaver completely eradicated my opinion that it is impossible to get a close shave with an electric shaver. I've had electric shavers in the past, Norelco rotaries and Panasonic wet/dry shavers, and none of them ever gave me a satisfyingly close shave. They would also irritate my skin, because I'd end up going back over and over my beard, trying to get the darn thing to shave closer.

This Braun however, shaves me closer than I ever thought was possible without using a blade. It shaves close with just a couple of passes, even under my chin and on my neck, which have always been my problem areas. It does so without pulling and yanking the hairs too (another lovely characteristic of my past shavers). No, it's not as close as a blade, but it almost is; and it won't leave your skin chaffed or knicked as can happen when using a blade. Bottom line is, you can't get a closer more comfortable shave with any other electric shaver. And the self-cleaning function leaves this baby feeling brand new every time you use it. It's worth it's price!

Got this shaver after reading reviews that it was a good shaver for the price. I definitely think that it gives a great shave (better than the Braun it replaced) and is a lot cheaper than other brands.

This razor gave me a shave equal to or better than any shave I've gotten without using a regular blade (even a somewhat dull blade).

My beard is probably average; not too thick, not too thin. If I don't have anything special going on I can go two days after shaving with a blade with only the mustache / goatee area looking kind of scraggly on the second day. But I have to shave every day when using an electric.

I've only had three electric razors in over 30 years of shaving; a cheap rotary non-cordless Norelco, a Braun 6520 and now this one. I have also used a blade between razor purchases, when the razors needed new parts and on special occasions just because it looks better.

The Norelco may or may not have done a better job on my neck due to the rotary heads but overall I recall it giving me an average to poor shave even after replacing the heads. The Braun gave me a great shave and I would still be using it if I were not concerned about how much longer the battery would last. It used to provide about ten shaves per charge but now it's down to maybe four. Since the Braun needed a new screen and blades I figured the money would be better spent buying a new razor. Braun has priced their razors out of the range I'll pay for shaving my face so I read the reviews and bought the Panasonic.

The Panasonic has been great for the two weeks I've used it. After the first two or three uses I noticed my neck was kind of itchy which has since subsided. I suspect it was due to pushing too hard or maybe my face just needed to get used to the new razor. Or maybe it had nothing to do with razor, who knows. It is a little louder than the Braun or at least a different pitch but I don't think that it would be any more liable to wake someone up in an adjacent room.

The power button certainly is in an odd place where I suspect most men put their thumb when shaving and I did shut it off by mistake once. To avoid that from happening a minor change in how you hold the razor is required which is to shift the thumb closer to the head where at least Panasonic thinks your thumb should be. I like to hold the razor so that it does not touch the palm of my hand and only my thumb and fingers are gripping it but I have tried a golf club grip a few times which worked fine but will take some getting used to.

I have only shaved dry and probably won't use it wet, with or without lather. I have also not used the cleaning feature yet but I do like the base for charging and to have somewhere to put the razor when not in use. I suspect the cleaning feature will be useful if and when I use it but the documentation shows the razor can be easily cleaned with soup and water under the faucet. Either way, it will be nice to be able to thoroughly clean it and not have to rely on the dumb little brushes.

All in all I have no complaints about this razor and I would recommend it to anyone who does not expect a shave as good as a regular blade. If there's an electric razor out there that does that good of a job I would like to know about it. Until then, I'll be happy using this one.

The machine works as advertised. The only thing that you might want to change is the bag that comes with it (it doesn't hold the machine very well). Apart from that, I can't say anything except that I'm a very satisfied customer.

After a year of a good grooming, the unit's switch suddenly got stuck in the "on" position. Middle of the night, total silence in the house.. Except for what sounded like a huge vibrator. Had to shove it under a pillow and wait till the batteries died. Arrrgh.

Now, how do you fix that? Pretty simple. The switch is getting stuck because of the vacuum developing inside of the watertight container. The unit is getting hot in the shower, pressure inside increases, and it (somehow) releases that pressure. Eventually, you are getting enough vacuum to suck the membrane that covers the switch almost all the way in. All you have to do to fix that is let some air in.

First, make sure the unit is dry in and out. Use a compressed air can to blow water drops out of hard to reach places if you have to. You don't want to let any water get inside! Now, remove the head. Just pull it out.

Next, using a flathead screwdriver or utility knife, pull out those silvery colored side moldings. The case will open like a clamshell. You will find a fairly small watertight container with all of the electrical components inside. Carefully pull out any of the latches that are used to keep it closed. Pull two latches if that wasn't enough; your on/off switch membrane will immediately "pop" back into shape.

Reseal the unit back like it was before. Works like new!

The good: a good shave; plenty of battery life (at least when brand-new); corded or cordless use; when corded, it shaves really well even if the batteries are nearly depleted; easy to clean (the heads can be rinsed under the tap).

That said: I would have liked an indicator when the battery is down far enough that recharging is indicated, like my old Norelco had. I guess it doesn't matter, since if it stops dead you can finish up with the cord, but I still would have liked a "Time to Recharge" indicator.

The instructions say that, for best battery life, you should use it cordless as much as possible, and run the batteries almost all the way out before recharging. I'd rather have a razor I can use corded all the time, but this is the next best thing.
