 Effective/Fantastic Product for the Sensitive Sleeper, 2010-08-26
I am, unfortunately, freakishly sensitive to sound - not the best combo for someone who lives in an urban environment (from high rises with thin walls, to a studio overlooking a 24 hour sunroof, to a 2-flat with a thin ceiling). For a long time I would run my fan at a high level to cover the noise of my neighbors and traffic. That worked for some time, but I hated how dry it would make the room. I stumbled upon the Marpac SleepMate after doing a random Amazon search one day and thought I might as well give it a shot.
Thanks to everyone's reviews, I have found a fantastic product. The SleepMate can be adjusted at a variety of levels; I find the lowest one is often sufficient - for nights that the neighbors are a big louder, with just the flip of a button - voila! - all gone. It did take a week or so to get used to (which is included in the instructions so you aren't surprised; nice!) but now I can't imagine sleeping without it. A dream come true for those with super sonic hearing.

My family and I have occasional stomach issues; nothing major. We eat Activia yogurt pretty frequently, and my child has received probiotics in powder form from the pediatrician -- they are not some homeopathic "trust us!" remedy. So I gave this a shot. For a few days I took it and didn't really notice any issues. I can't say for sure whether I was just fine to begin with at the time, or whether these capsules had an effect. Then one day I forgot to take it with a meal, and popped one down the hatch on an empty stomach.
Let's just say that my 5-year-old found the results HILARIOUS and leave it at that. (I'm expecting to receive a carbon-offset bill from Al Gore any day now.) So if you could use some digestive improvement, and don't like yogurt, give this a try. I recommend checking with your doctor first, though, just to be safe (as I would with any sort of medication or supplement). I also suggest following the "take with a meal" directions -- unless you are in the mood to discover some fancy new odors unlike any you've emitted before. . .

I received this item with great timing. I was going on a cruise and hoped to receive it before leaving. I ordered it on a Monday and by Friday I received in regular ground mail. This was great service of store mailing it out on the same day of the order. I was able to use it on my cruise. I was able to test pregnancy 2 weeks later. They worked perfectly. These work great! I would say they block out about 95% of the light. There is just a little light coming from the base of my nose that I can see. Also I can detect no chemical smell or other oder on these, which is very important if your trying to relax and sleep.
Sadly, when I wake up I usually find them thrown on the floor somewhere. But I can see how they would be great for sleeping in the car or on a plane. The straps will fit an adult male comfortably which is one problem I have had before with other products. Also the design is very well made in that you don't feel anything on your face hardly at all and you can open and close your eyes without your eyelids or lashes coming in contact with anything.
I have tried 2 other traditional sleep masks that didn't work for me, either becuase they are itchy, too small, or because they get too hot due to the fact that they are pressing against my face. This product has none of those faults and are very easy to wear and adjust. I have not tried the included ear plugs but they seem to be of the standard variety. I would buy this sleep mask again and I would recommend it.

This device was easy to mold with very good directions. My husband has been using it with very good success as he sleeps deeper and more restfully. Though not diagnosed, I believe he has some sleep apnea and he flat out refused to get tested as he wouldn't use a c-pap device anyway. I have noticed his sleep patterns improved and he noticed the difference because he dreams so much more.
