This movie is no doubt one of the most underrated movies of 2001.Great music score and nonstop action.I know this movie was controversial but still the best.A great movie based on an actual event that occured in 1993.You won't be bored nor disappointed.Don't listen to the ones who gave it bad reviews unless It's about the DVD,VHS,or Blu-Ray.Once the movie starts,there are no studios logos at the beginning and they will appear after the credits and you'll just see the text at the beginning of the film that says"based on an actual event,".Go on and buy this film.

Regarding the Blu-ray collector's edition, I ordered it from Amazon two days ago and it arrived today. Disc one is indeed the final cut and disc five is indeed the workprint. I checked the content of the discs themselves; not just the artwork. I either got lucky or the "defective" copies of this flick have gone the way of the dodo, so I'd say it's safe to order with confidence from here on out.
About the movie - if you haven't seen Blade Runner yet in any of it's many forms, what are you waiting for? This is probably the best sci-fi flick of the 80s and a pure masterpiece of cinema. One of my absolute favorites that I'm thrilled to finally own in HD. Get it.

This DVD set comes with 9 disks. Each two set disks have the original movie and extended version with additional materials. I have waited for years to have the entire move set. With this I have the movies and hours of background on each of the movies. I have not yet watched all the disks. This is a must have for any fan of Alien.

Smokey& The Bandit for modern women. Where's Burt Reynolds on this movie? He belongs on it! Excellent script, storyline with a shocking ending that you will never see coming and will pull your heartstrings. Although aimed more at a female audience, if you like Convoy or Smokey & The Bandit- like movies, this is a must-have! Geena Davis is HOT in this as well with a steamy sex scene. Get it!

The remastered Blu-ray version (Yellow UPC Code) is stunning, and the movie itself is very good.
As I indicated in the previous sentence the remastered version is identified by a YELLOW UPC Code on the back of the case, and "2-Disc Set" above the Paramount Logo on the bottom right of the back of the case.
I still have the original Blu-ray version of Gladiator and have decided to keep it just in case it might become a collector's item despite the poor transfer. At least I can compare it to those interested the difference between the two versions in case they want to purchase the Blu-ray.
NOTE: Another indication of the remastered version is a normal WHITE UPC Code on the back of the case, with the "2-Disc Set" REMOVED above the Paramount Logo.

Great Movie, Director's Cut is 10x better than Theatrical Version, 2010-08-18
I originally saw the theatrical version and was highly disappointed. I kind of felt lost through the whole movie and the battles seemed anti-climactic, probably due to not knowing the characters well enough. It looked like it had a lot of potential but was just too scattered.
I bought the director's cut blu-ray based on all the reviews on Amazon and it lived up to the hype. The director's cut is much easier to follow and is a great movie. Blu-ray looks and sounds great and it's one of those movies you can put in to show off your home theater. Like everyone else has said, if you like epic war and history movies like this and you were disappointed with the theatrical version you owe it to yourself to check out the director's cut.
