The second season of the BBC's comic whodunit, New Tricks, arrives on DVD 1/19! They might not look like a team of crack detectives, but once veteran coppers Lane, Standing, Halford, and their bullish boss Pullman get their (false) teeth into their cold cases, things heat up pretty quickly. With old-school detective work and a little state-of-the-art forensics, the veterans unearth a range of baffling crimes including the murder of a lawyer, a racially motivated attack on an Asian bride, and a mysterious unidentified human torso. Will they succeed where others have failed? Or will the burden of all the years begin to weigh down on them? After all, we all have to grow ...
Terrific Show, 2010-09-07 I love "new Tricks." It is masterfully written and acted. It shows the audience the value of seasoned working with modern and what they learn from each other. It's funny, sad, sobering, and enlightening. I ordered season 1 because I watch it on OPB and wanted to know how the team was formed. I watched the entire set of 3 discs twice on the weekend and had a wonderful time. If you like BBC mysteries and want something that is very entertaining, then by all means, get "New Tricks."

Aired on BBC America. Perfect for fans of A Touch of Frost, CSI, and British crime dramas. Starring Ken Stott (BBC s The Singing Detective and Messiah, Rebus, and the upcoming Narnia sequel).

Sleeper Series Drags You In, 2009-11-14 Somehow I -- and a lot of others -- missed this excellent crimes series coming out of the UK. When I bought the DVD series I thought it must be a new show, only to later discover that is is few years old. The characters are very intriguing and fallible. The storylines are dramatic and as per the norm with BBC programs, not afraid to kill off a favorite character or two.

Do Not (Repeat) Do Not Miss This One, 2010-09-02 The premise is terrific: a cold case team consisting of a sitting Detective Superintendent and three former coppers, one a recent widower, one a much-married jokester, the third an obsessive-compulsive. The initial credits and theme music suggest that we're in for a lighthearted laugh fest. We're not. There is humor, much of it sweet and clever, but this is noir drama of a very high order. The scripts are tight, the acting superb, the characters endearing. I love British mysteries, with Foyle at the top of my pantheon, followed closely by Frost, Morse, Lewis, Midsomer Murders, et al. Move over guys and make room for the team from New Tricks. This is the real deal--first-rate crime drama as only the Brits can do it (consistently).

A fictional interpretation of true events. The film dramatises an apocalyptic episode from the remarkable life of maverick scientist and sexual revolutionary Dr. Wilhelm Reich (1897 - 1957). Set in the USA in 1956, the film corrects some of the widespread misunderstandings that continue to surround this most unusual man. Although events have been conflated, it is a truthful if poetic account; not only of Reich's breadth of outlook but also of the sinister forces that connived to destroy him. The Director aimed to create an epic feel that would both subtly reflect the beauty of Reich's holistic scientific vision and the enormity of the crime visited against it. The DVD inc...
Wonderful movie - too short!, 2010-05-16 Very emotionally intense, very moving. Uplifting scenes on all major aspects of Reich's important therapeutic and scientific works, including his daughter Eva's wonderful work with mothers and babies, alternate with the displays of the utter contempt and violence of the press and the federal agents who have come to destroy it all. Too bad that the director was prevented from making the full-length film that he had planned. I'm sure it would have been extraordinary.
