But they rise to the challenge with the help of their guardian-creator, Professor Utonium. In the Emmy-nominated title episode, Bubbles gets fed up with being "the cute one," while her comrades get the better assignments, so she takes on a series of ugly baddies, resulting in many fires and explosions. Clifford the Big Red Dog and some of his friends take you on a fun-filled musical adventure. The home viewer is invited to participate in the singing, dancing, and clapping as well as making up their own verses to such childhood classics as "Old McDonald Had a Farm," "Row, Row, Row Your Boat," and "I've Been Working on the Railroad," to name a few. Clever animation is effectively mixed with live action; young children will have a good time watching and participating in this video again and again. Fourteen songs in all. The graphically inventive feature that introduced the Cartoon Network series owes as much to the cartoons of UPA and Chuck Jones as it does to anime. The title character is a prince whose family has fought the evil demon Aku for control of their fanciful Asian kingdom for ages. During an intense battle, Jack is hurled into a future city ruled by Aku and his henchmen-robots. After aiding some talking dogs, Jack vows to continue his struggle against Aku and return to own time. The angular, minimal visuals are effective and eclectic: Aku's face is modeled on Sri Lankan demon masks, and the characters move in ways that fit their stylized designs. Unfortunately, the wr...

This brief feature (only 62 minutes) mixes characters and situations borrowed from various shorts that Tex Avery, William Hanna, and Joseph Barbera made at MGM during the 1940s and early '50s. Yet director James Tim Walker lacks the razor-sharp timing of his models. When a young wizard leaves Tom to guard his magic ring, and Jerry gets the ring stuck on his head, a long series of chases and slapstick confrontations ensue. At times, Walker and writers Tim Cahill and Julie McNally seem to be trying to turn the venerable MGM stars into Itchy and Scratchy (who were modeled after the inferior Tom and Jerry clones from other studios). Magic Ring may amuse small c...
