Take Animal House, throw in a dose of television's Bosom Buddies and you get the Phoebe Cates/Matthew Modine sex farce Private School. The 1983 film was shot one year after Cates won fame in Fast Times at Ridgemont High (thanks primarily to her little red bikini), and two years before Modine won rave reviews for his work in Vision Quest. While neither star gives a stellar performance in Private School, both are appealing and likeable, even with the ridiculous premise. Chris (Cates) attends an all-girls private school, while horndog Jim (Modine) matriculates at the nearby all-boys school. In order to get close to her, Jim and his f...
Classic sex comedy... they don't make them like that anymore!, 2010-02-11 What a great movie (that Betsy Russell is so gorgeous!), the characters, story and music. Wish there were more extras though. If you enjoyed this one back in the day, you won't be disappointed with the DVD. Highly recommended!

Smokey BITES, 2006-04-11 When Smokey & THe Bandit became I hit I guess everyone wanted to make a movie just like it...... this was an attempt at it, and I repeat ATTEMPT at it.
This plots stupid and makes no sense. A kid named Roscoe who's a hot shot behind the wheel for no reason steals a car with the prom queen in it who's father is the towns sherrif and then abducts her as they speed away being chased by cops and these morons. However, she doesnt resist too much and ends up in love with him and they think there Bonny & Clyde or something.
Then stupid things happen along the way like a Shiek wanting to buy moonshine that I guess they thought was a great idea. The ending is a bit zaney but not too bad... but overall, this movie is a typical "seen it, dont wanna see it again" kinda cheese flick.
Watch it if your bored stupid and dont have any paint to watch drying.

Before he started losing his hair (which gave his baby face the maturity it needed for him to be taken seriously as a doctor on E.R.), Anthony Edwards was the quintessential juvenile lead, college division. That is what he plays here: a college kid who is campus champ at an assassination game called Gotcha (that uses fake guns). Then he goes on a summer vacation behind the Iron Curtain (before it came tumbling down) and falls for a female operative (Linda Fiorentino), who not only uses him as an unsuspecting courier for spy stuff but makes him a fall guy, as well. When he finally extricates himself from the trouble, the trouble follows him back to campus. Silly an...
Gotcha, 2010-07-15 Gotcha, starring Anthony Edwards and Linda Fiorentino, is an overlooked classic.
It captures the feeling of a time (1980s, with a whiff of 1970s) and places (LA, UCLA, Paris, and East/West Berlin
with the wall still up) just perfectly in a light, and at times comedic, spy thriller romance.
I don't know if that is a film category, but it does combine all those elements elegantly
in a fun story. If you lived in or visited any of these places at that time, you will understand
that this film hits the mark as an imaginative cultural touchstone of all that. The true test
passed is that it has staying power and remains enjoyable after many viewings. The
soundtrack and the film techniques complement the story and move the action along.
Check it out. You won't be disappointed. by Clif Tinker
